We often say, Jesus is the Reason for the Season--but, what does that really mean from a Scriptural POV? Why is the Incarnation--Jesus' First Coming--vitally important for God's people and the world around us? The author of Hebrews pulls back the curtain on the Incarnation--where the Gospels give us the what, Hebrews gives us the why.

Hebrews 2:9-18


  • In His First Coming, Jesus experienced death on behalf of others.
  • In His First Coming, Jesus secured salvation for wayward sinners.
  • In His First Coming, Jesus defeated our greatest enemies–death and Satan.
  • In His First Coming, Jesus qualified to be our sympathetic High Priest–who offers to help in time of need.

  1. When we consider the Person and Work of Christ, what resonates most with you? Why?
  2. How does meditating/reflecting on Christ strengthen your faith and desire to follow Him?
  3. We can sum up the work of Christ as sacrificial. Consider some practical ways we can follow His example within the body of Christ and the community around us?
